He also preached the message “Respecting Authority.”  It look like it was part of a series because it says “Life of Paul VIII”

So I have decided to write another post about the campus I use to live on.  Since the last post I have remembered a few more good stories, mostly about my brother, Tim.

So let me start with the disclaimer that I am not trying to embarrass Tim.  He really was a great kid, just a little mischievous at times.  So one of the things that I remember is Tim collecting things in his pockets.  One time he had a whole orange, peeled and sectioned, in his pocket and at his leisure he would pull out a piece and eat it.  Another time I remember him collecting rolly-pollies in his pocket.  He must have had like 100 in there.  ONe of the other things that Tim liked to do was climb trees.  He usually feel out of them also and that meant a trip to the emergency room.  One other thing Tim liked to do was throw things in the Duck Pond.  He threw in a whole box of salt and pepper shakers, a chalk board and chalk, a play phone, rocks, a pair of brand new shoes (his own), and probably lots of other things that I can’t remember.  He also liked to hang out with the guys on the maintenance crew and the college guys.  I love my little brother.

Now onto some other stories.  I remember tying a little tykes plastic wagon to the back of a bike and pulling people over the speed bumps.  We ruined that little wagon.  I remember Brenna Nepomuceno  cutting my hair and the hair of the college guys in the ping pong room.  One of my favorite places to play was in the rock house.  Man, did things come to life there.  We had such imaginations!

I saw an opossum this morning and it made me think about the one that got stuck in the dumpster.  That thing was vicious.  It took like 2 days for it to crawl out and the dumpster was on its side.  When ever some one would approach the thing would hiss like crazy.  I stayed far away.  Ummm Does anyone remember when one of the guys backed the truck into the dumpster?

I remember hanging out with the Reasoner kids and the Keck kids.  We meet so many awesome people up there.  We spent a lot of time with the Gray girls.  Becka, do you remember the slugs on our flowers that we picked that one time in the rain?  We had so much freedom and fun.  Everyday held a new adventure or imaginative game.

Who remembers the firecrackers in front of Vorhis?  I can see Bro. Rushing laughing at the reactions, and Bro. Perryman running out of his trailer with his hair all wild.

I have more I could write but I will stop here for now.  More to come soon!  Hope you enjoy!

So yesterday I went on a field trip with the 5th and 6th grade classes!  We went to the California Science Center in Los Angeles.  It was a lot of fun.  James and I had a group of 7 kids, 5 boys and 2 girls.

We started the day off in the special exhibit that they had.  It was a CSI exhibit.  You wait in a  line and are given paper to record the facts from your crime scene.

Paper for the crime scene

Paper for the crime scene

Then you are taken into a room and briefed on what to do, and then the real fun begins.  You are taken to your crime scene and told to note the things you see, you have a place on your paper where you can draw in the things from your scene.  Ours was a lady laying by a dumpster, her purse was on the ground and it’s contents spilled out, a little bag of some white substance was laying on the ground, and she had tire marks on her, there was no blood and there was a fly on her arm.  After going over the crime scene you head back to the labs.  This is where you start checking your evidence.  They had cool computers that showed things like who the girl’s last text message was from,

James helping the girls with the computer for the text messages

Seeing who the last message was on the cell phone

there was also a place to find out who’s prints were on the picture found at the scene

They had four different patterns of tire tread to match to the cast from the crime scene

Another thing that they could investigate was when “Penny” died.  They had a microscope with a larve fond on Penny’s body. She had been killed 3 days before her body was found.

Figuring out when she died

Figuring out when she died

We then found out that Penny wasn’t her real name. So we got to try and match a DNA chart from Penny to Parents who had missing children.  Penny’s real name ended up being Lucy Cannelli.  Penny Golden was her stage name. She had run away from home at 14.

ONe of the last things that you do is get a medical examiner report.  they did an awesome job at this part.  they had a table with a dummy lying on it and a projector over head made it look like you were right there for the whole thing!  A screen on the back wall had the dr talking to you and you could see everything he was talking about on the dummy.

Medical Examiner Report

At the end you file your report.  So our case:  Penny Golden AKA Lucy Cannelli met up with a friend on the evening of May 4th and was given some drugs that she took.  If you remember me mentioning that there was no blood on the victim, yet she had been run over by a car.  This is because she was already dead when the car ran over her.  She had died from drug overdose, or the combination of drugs and alcohol.  Her friend, Diana was the last person to see her and had given her the drugs!  So Diana was arrested for selling illegal drugs.

The whole thing was an awesome experience and look into the life of a forensic scientist.  I really enjoyed it.

The California Science Center is free.  The CSI exhibit will be there until April 26, 2009.  If you are interested in this kind of stuff or just want to check it out.  The rest of the museum was great fun also.  there are a lot of interactive things for kids to do.  It is open from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.  You can bring a picnic lunch and only spend money on gas and any souvenirs you might buy.

The rest of the pics can be viewed in an album on the pictures page!  :)

So Rebekah and Jen have both written blogs in the last few days that have brought many childhood memories flooding back into my mind!

My family lived on the campus of Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College for four years!  I was 6 years old when we moved to California from Michigan and this move brought a life of adventure and fun and pretty much a huge wonderful backyard that could beat any other!  My parents were the deans of at the college and us kids had the whole campus to play on!  We rode bikes all over the place, and if our bikes were broken we roller skated, and if we didn’t feel like doing that we walked, ran, or hitched rides with one of the numerous maintenance vehicles that were forever going from one point to another!  :)  This brings me to one of my first really great memories!  I will never forget my dad was driving a golf cart and the whole family was taking a ride together!  Dad in the drivers seat, mom right next to him, Tim sitting on the other side of mom and Rebekah and I standing on the back!  Well, Tim was leaning over the handle by the seat and dad went over a speed bump, since Tim had more weight outside the golf cart he kind of did a flip over the edge and landed on the pavement!  Dad ran over his arm on accident!  Surprisingly enough, Tim was fine except for the tire marks on his arm!  :)

Another one of my favorite memories is when we were going to have a roller derby for school!  A certain person, who’s name I will not reveal, told my sister that he hoped she feel and got a rock in her head!  This was after she had said something to his bragging in the effect of I skate down this hill all the time!  Guess who ended up with a rock in his head?  :)  Hmmm I also seem to remember Rebekah, Jen, and Lizzy always ditching me!   Everytime they all got together they must have looked at each other and said “Let’s Go!”  and I was left in the dust and in tears.  There were sometimes that they would let me stay with them, but more often then not I ended up in the dorm with the college girls!  :)

One of the things I loved about living on campus was the nature and all the time we spent outside!  I think we thought it was torture and punishment when it rained because we were told to stay inside!  Like we did!  Do you know how much fun it is to ride your bike in the rain.  I also remember my dad giving Rebekah and I a ride to school on the days that it rained!  Since we lived on the campus and school was on the campus we usually walked!

During the summer we would get up and play all day long!  I think it was during one of those summers that my mom told Rebekah and I we couldn’t go play until our room was clean!  Well, Lizzy came looking for us and when told about our room (which was quite messy at the time) she decided to help us!  Only my mom didn’t like Lizzy’s idea of helping!  I don’t think we ever could have come up with that many hiding places for clothes! :)  One of our favorite summer activities was to run a hose to one of those pools that had the pard plastic sides but sat on the ground!  We would leave the hose running because we wouldn’t all sit in the pool and have fun we would line up and do flips into the pool and because we were so small we would basically crash through the side and a lot of the water would drain out hence the running hose! :)  We even had a college guy do a few flips one time! :)

One thing I really miss is the Canyon Road!  Yep, that rode that seemed like it took forever to drive up!  I loved it!  I loved all the trails and the wildlife!  I remember waling home from church with my dad one night and watching 5 raccoons climb out of a tree and walk right into Baskin!  They guys had left the door open and the raccoons took that as an open invitation!  I also remember one morning walking to school and have a pack of coyotes run across the Bombsite in front of us!  One more thing before I close this post!  I loved our family walks every night!  Our cat Patches would follow us like a dog, no leash!  My dad had trained her to come to a snap and a whistle and if she wandered off all he had to do was “call” for her!  She was an indoor and outdoor cat!  She would come and go as she pleased and most of the time took care of her business outdoors!  Amazingly she never got killed by coyotes, sadly thought she got hit by a car after we moved off campus and into a busier neighborhood!

I really miss the campus, but I love all the memories that I have from there!  Not many kids have the backyard that I had! :)

As of today, James and I have been married for 9 months!  We have enjoyed getting to know each other much more and love being together all the time!  We didn’t have big plans for today since we had a very long week!  We were at the school all day 3 out of the 5 days this week.  On Monday night we had meatchew (a get together to discuss a book that Matt has chosen for all of us to read) We are reading the book “Don’t Waste Your Life” by: John Piper.  It has been a great book for all of us!  Tuesday we actually got to spend at home, Wednesday we had church so we stayed at the school until then, Thursday James’ class was involved in a play “The Life of Fanny Crosby”  and so we stayed at the school all afternoon!  On Friday, we had a youth game and worship night!  So we stayed at the school so we could have everything set up by 6.  On most of the nights this week we didn’t get home until after 10 so we were really wiped out!  This morning James slept until noon, I got up around 10:30.  We had a very relaxing day today. We laft to get my allergy shots at 2:30, went to Wal-Mart, ate lunch around 3:00 at In-n-Out, then headed to the Apple Store at South Coast Plaza so I could purchase a few things for my computer.  We arrived back home around 5:30 and plan on just relaxing here tonight!

The last 9 months have been wonderful!  I love James more today then I did yesterday and we are learning to handle things together.

Youth Lights from March 7th and 21st 2004
I still have a whole collection of youth lights! They bring back great memories and laughs! I think the oldest one I have is September 17, 2000! Thanks Jay for the creativity and thought that you put into making youth group so much fun!

Lawyers aren’t typically funny–unless by accident. Case in point: The following questions from lawyers were taken from official court records nation wide:

1. Was that the same nose you broke as a child?

2. Now, doctor, isn’t it true that when a person dies in his sleep, in most cases he just passes quietly away and doesn’t know anything about it until the next morning?

3. Q: What happened then?
A: He told me, “I have to kill you because you can identify me.”
     Q: Did he kill you?

4. Was it you or your brother that was killed in the war?

5. The youngest son, the 20-year-old, how old is he?

6. Were you alone or by yourself?

7. How long have you been French Canadian?

8. Do you have children or anything of that kind?

9. Q: I show you exhibit 3 and ask you if you recognize that picture?
     A: That’s me
Q: Were you present when that picture was taken?

10. Were you present in court this morning when you were sworn in?

11. Q: Now, Mrs. Johnson, how was your first marriage terminated?
       A: By death
Q: And by whose death was it terminated

12. Q: Mrs. Jones, do you believe you are emotionally stable?
       A: I used to be
Q: How many times have you committed suicide?

13. So you were gone until you returned?

14. Q: She had 3 children, right?
       A: yes
       Q: How many were boys?
       A: none
       Q: Were there girls?

15. You don’t know what it was, and you don’t know what it looked like, but can you describe it?

16. Q: You say that the stairs went down to the basement?
       A: yes
Q: And these stairs, did they go up also

17. Q: Have you lived in this town all your life?
       A. Not yet

18. Q: Do you recall approximately the time that you examined the body of Mr. Edington at the Rose Chapel?
A: It was in the evening. The autopsy started about 8:30 pm
Q: And Mr. Edington was dead at the time…
A: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy!

I do have all the pick-up lines because of the youth lights! :)

Well I had a fun trip!  We took a good group of teens!  We took 15 jr. high and high schoolers!  They all had a great time!  We met at Denny’s at 5:30 on Thursday morning and had breakfast then took off around 7:00!  It was a 4 hour drive, but seemed to pass fairly quickly!  We got to our motel around 11:15 and checked in and changed then headed over to VCA for lunch!  At 1:30 we had orientation and then competition began!  We didn’t have a super busy schedule so we enjoyed being able to watch others compete and also our students!  My In-laws were there with their school from San Francisco so I got to spend some time with them!  We had dinner around 7:00 and watched the music competition in the auditorium after that!  At around 8:00 some of our group headed back to the hotel, but we still had one student playing chess and so I stayed to wait for him!  He was playing the championship game and he won!  He finished around 9:15 and we headed back to the hotel!

Friday morning we had to be at VCA for breakfast at 7:00 am and then we had students in spelling bee at 8:00.  I had been invited to go to breakfast with my in-laws so I dropped the students off at the school and headed back to the hotel to have breakfast!  I got to spend about 3 hours with my in-laws and then we all headed back to VCA!  We got there around 10:00 and had about an hour before we had to be in the auditorium for the final service and awards ceremony!  So we wandered through the art rooms and enjoyed the Starbucks that had been brought to us!  We went into the auditorium for the service and awards ceremony!  That finished around 1:50 and we said our good-byes!  Our group headed to Carl’s Jr. for lunch and then we hit the road for the trip home!  We drove for about 2 hours and then stopped for an hour and 1/2 at the outlets in Camarillo, we did this so we wouldn’t be sitting in traffic!  We got back on the road around 6:30 and arrived back at the school at 8:15!  It was a fun trip!  Our students did very well and won a few awards!  I will try to remember them!  :)
